Frustration for Northants and Kent as day three is washed out at County Ground

Day three of the Rothesay County Championship Division Two clash between promotion rivals Northants and Kent at Wantage Road was completely washed out by continuous and heavy rain on Saturday.

Umpires Paul Pollard and Hassan Adnan carried out an inspection just after lunch but, with rain still falling, decided to call off proceedings for the day.

Northants currently trail Kent’s first innings 345 by 271 runs with 10 wickets remaining.

Ricardo Vasconcelos is unbeaten on 43, while skipper Luke Procter is 28 not out.

Kent began the match in second place in division two, with Northants just four points behind in third.

With a likely draw in prospect, both sides will be looking to earn as many bonus points as possible during the final day on Sunday.

Northamptonshire currently have three bonus points to their name, while Kent have two.
