Dominant Hamilton extends his lead after Spanish Grand Prix win

Lewis Hamilton cruised to a fourth consecutive Spanish Grand Prix victory on Sunday to extend his championship lead.

The Brit controlled the pace from the start as Max Verstappen got the jump on Valtteri Bottas into second, where he remained.

Bottas couldn't make his soft tyres work in the final stint to challenge the Red Bull man for second spot but managed to land the fastest lap extra point.

Hamilton said: "I was in a different groove out there. The medium tyre was great for us. I didn't even realise it was the last lap, I was ready to keep going!

"We worked hard on the tyres we could use and the strategy. I could make those tyres last longer and maybe go for one stop, but there was no need to risk it. Thank you to all the guys at the factory for the last few weeks."

Verstappen said: "I think to be able to split they mercedes mas the best for us. I'm very happy with second. The start was crucial to get last Valtteri and then I could just do my own pace. I expected s bit more from Valtteri towards the end, but he wasn't really catching me."

Bottas added: "the start was key and it wasn't hold enough. In the first stint I had to make up ground, and lost tyre life. In the end, the start cost me. I'm disappointed."

Lance Stroll capitalised on a penalty for his Racing Point team mate Sergio Perez to finish fourth and fifth, ahead of McLaren's Carlos Sainz at his home race.

Sebastian Vettel was named driver of the day for his stellar performance to get his Ferrari into seventh ahead of Alex Albon, Pierre Gasly and Lando Norris rounding out the points.
