Darren Lehmann admits to injury concern over key man for in-form Northants Steelbacks

Master blaster Chris Lynn is an injury concern ahead of Northants Steelbacks' top-of-the-table clash at Gloucestershire on Wednesday night.

The Australian was once again in top from as the County made it seven Vitality Blast wins out of seven with a 130-run battering of Essex Eagles at the cinch County Ground on Friday night.

Lynn thrashed 11 fours and three sixes on his way to 75 from just 37 balls as the Steelbacks powered their way to 238 for six.

It was a third 50-plus score of the season for Lynn, and took his run tally for the campaign to 320 – fifth in the nationwide standings.

But the 36-year-old was then unable to field as Essex were rushed out for just 108, and Darren Lehmann revealed that was down to his fellow countryman having an injury concern.

"Lynny is okay, but he is a bit tight in the hamstring and that is a bit of a worry for us," said the head coach.

"We will monitor that over the next few days, and hopefully he will be alright.

"But if he is any sort of doubt then he won't play (against Gloucestershire)."

In other injury news, Lehmann confirmed the broken finger that Luke Procter suffered at Durham is not as bad as first feared, and that the all-rounder should be fit to play ‘in a couple of weeks’.

Louis Kimber has been out of action since May 31 with a hamstring strain, but he is closing in on a return and could feature at Bristol in midweek.

Friday’s win over Essex maintained the Steelbacks' 100 per cent start to the Blast campaign, and they are eight points clear at the top of the Central & West Group with five matches to play.

They can extend that lead to 12 points with a win over Gloucestershire on Wednesday.

The two sides have already met in the Blast this season, with Northants securing a seven-wicket win at Wantage Road in May.
