Corby’s Jordan ‘The Epidemic’ Vucenic was celebrating another victory at the Cage Warriors event last weekend.

The MMA fighter followed up his win over Kommon Deh last October with a split-decision victory over Cage Warriors veteran Steve Aimable.

Aimable pushed the pace and had some early success with a low leg kick that briefly swept Vucenic to the mat, but he bounced straight back up and started to find a home for his punches as he ripped to the body, then came over the top with sharp shots to the head.

By the mid-way point in the round, both men had loosened up and had connected with solid striking combinations as the pair went toe to toe for much of the round before Aimable caught a Vucenic kick and landed a late takedown before the bell.

Round two saw both men meet in the center of the cage and let fly with their fists as they looked to establish striking superiority.

What started out as a striking-heavy matchup turned into a wrestling and grappling battle as the pair scrambled on the mat until the end of the round.

In the final round, featherweight prospect Vucenic had solid success with his jab, but Aimable’s hands seemed a touch faster and he connected with a couple of solid counter rights and heavy leg kicks.

Vucenic was able to drag Aimable to the mat in the final minute, but wasn’t able to find a submission opening as the two fighters went to the scorecards.

And it was a delighted Vucenic who edged a split-decision verdict with scores of 29-28, 28-29, 29-28.

“I was pretty confident, I believed I had it,” the Corby man said.

“I am quite a clever fighter, I know how to score rounds. I knew it was 50-50 so I was stealing rounds with takedowns.

“My conditioning is off the charts and when I took him down in the final minute I knew that was the fight for me.

“I knew it was going to be a hard fight. I take nothing away from him, it was a dogfight but I am here for all the dogfights and I’ll win them all."
