New Saints wing North plays down pressure

George North has brushed off talk of any personal pressure at Saints, saying ‘it’s what people make of it’.

Great things are expected of the big Wales wing, who starred for the British & Irish Lions as they claimed a 2-1 series win in Australia this summer.

North started life at Saints on Monday, having joined the club from Scarlets this summer.

And the Franklin’s Gardens faithful will be excited by the prospect of seeing their new recruit spearhead the charge for Premiership and European glory this season.

But North, typical of his laid-back character, is taking it all in his stride.

He said: “It’s the nature of the beast: you perform well and people expect you to be up there. I’ve come in to perform and hopefully I can do that as best I can.

“At the end of the day, I am human and everyone has their off days but hopefully I can get into the vibe very quickly and perform well.

“It’s what people make of it really. I have moved and I’m really happy to be part of the squad. I’m just looking forward to getting on and playing a few games now.”
