The fly-half has missed the previous four games with a hamstring injury, with Northampton winning just once – in the Amlin Challenge Cup quarter-final at Sale last Thursday – in his absence.

Glenn Dickson and Will Hooley have deputised, with the latter the preferred choice for three of the four matches.

But Myler looks set to be fit enough to return to the squad for this weekend’s crucial clash with a Saracens side who currently sit top of the league standings.

“He’s better and he’s running so hopefully he’ll be available at the weekend,” said Saints assistant coach Alan Dickens at Monday’s media gathering. “That’s all we can say at the moment.”

More positive news comes in the form of Alex Corbisiero, who continues his recovery from a knee injury sustained in November.

“He’s not back in full training yet, but he’s back on his feet,” said Dickens. “Hopefully he’s not far off, so it’s positive on that front.”
