Hanrahan, who can play at fly-half, centre or at full-back, has been excelling in the No.12 role in recent cameos from the bench.

He was one of the star performers in the win against Newcastle Falcons at stadium:mk and also looked lively at Sale Sharks last Sunday.

The former Munster man is pushing for his first Saints start in a competitive game and will hope to make the first 15 for Saturday’s clash with Saracens at Franklin’s Gardens.

And Myler said: “JJ’s fitted in really well.

“He’s obviously a very good player coming from Munster and he can play 10 or 12.

“We have that variety with Luther (Burrell) and JJ being able to play 12 and it gives a different set of eyes outside of me, which we perhaps haven’t had in recent years.

“We’re not trying to play a different style when JJ is on the pitch, but obviously individuals have certain strengths and it allows us to play a different way as we do with the competition we’ve got at full-back at nine and throughout the forwards as well.

“We’re in a very fortunate position, but we need to get playing to the level we know we can get to.”
