Myler confident of more road-trip success for Saints

Northampton play two of their final three games away from home, travelling to London Welsh on Sunday before a home game against Sale is followed by a trip to Harlequins.

Jim Mallinder’s men have excelled on the road this season, claiming wins at strongholds such as Sandy Park, Adams Park and Kingsholm.

Overall, they have claimed six victories from nine league games on the road and will hope to make that seven from 10 at the Kassam Stadium this weekend.

And fly-half Myler, who scored all of Saints’ points in their recent 36-8 home defeat to Leicester Tigers, said: “Somebody said after the Leicester game that we’ve played our best rugby away from home, which we’ve got to take confidence from.

“We are positive about this next game on Sunday and about the games coming up after that.

“We’ve got to be confident. We know Leicester wasn’t good by any stretch of the imagination, but we know we’re still a match for anybody in this league when we’re on our game.

“Our aim is to be as close to that full potential as we can be.”

With temperatures set to rise into the teens this weekend, running rugby could be on the agenda at the Kassam.

And Myler is certainly hoping that is the case after a long winter packed with forward-dominated battles.

“It’s been wintry conditions for far too long for my liking,” he said.

“That’s essentially where our game starts, the forwards and the set piece, and if we don’t have that any team’s going to struggle.

“It’s been a massive strength of ours this year that we can rely on that when we need to.

“But we need to do a little bit more than that as well.

“We need to use that forward dominance in a positive way to play wide and we need to be accurate when we decide to do that.”
