Leaders have few problems against two-man St John

Kevin Bird and Patryk Polanski were easy winners but the improved Travis Holly disappointed in a heavy 2-11, 5-11, 6-11 defeat to Pete Boustred who gained only his fifth win of the season.

Second-placed Chesterwell A kept the pressure on Westfield as they inflicted a second whitewash in a row on Higham Harriers A.

Robert Collyer and reserve Mick Malins were never in the hunt but Graham Bird was unlucky, taking both Valdi Papiernik and Stan Galkowski to five before bowing out.

Mike Pond again cruised to a treble without dropping a leg.

Chesterwell B owed much to Carlton Ellwood as his excellent treble prevented a heavier defeat than the 6-4 loss they suffered at Wanderers A.

His best win was a five-set victory over Tony Wharton and his treble was completed with surprisingly heavy successes over Andy Law and Jon Taylor-Burt, both in three sets.

Luke Hughes sank to his third blank in a row and a below-par Graham Ellson only avoided the same by edging out Taylor-Burt.

With the match dependent on the doubles, Wharton/Law won a thrilling game over Ellson/Ellwood.

Ian Donaldson produced his best performance to date in Thrapston’s 6-4 victory over WDHA Royals, gaining a hard fought treble with all of his games going to five

Steve West followed suit but only needed a five-setter against Mihir Mistry as he won out against Shivam Mistry and Shyam Bavalia much more easily.

However, Chris Warliker could not emulate his colleagues and failed to register, although in a five-setter with Shyam Bavalia, he lost out in three deuces.

To compound a disastrous night, he joined with Donaldson to go down to a doubles defeat to the Mistrys.

Although their long run of defeats continued, Westfield B had the consolation of drawing level at the bottom of the table as they went down 6-4 to Wanderers B.

Stephen Woolstons’ fine form continued with an excellent treble, easing out Bob Hickson in the 5th while enjoying more comfortable wins over Richard Adams and Paul Goodman.

Mark Ramsden gained only his second win of the season against Goodman.

Peter Sheldrick again went down heavily and the match depended on the doubles where, together with Woolston, they went down for a 13th consecutive defeat.

WDHA Superkings moved to the top of Division Two with a 9-1 win at Old Grammarians B while previous leaders Westfield C went down 7-3 at third-placed Higham Harriers B.

David Bayes staved off a complete rout for Old Grammarians by defeating Amit Shah at the last hurdle.

Other than that, they did not get a look in as Superkings swept all before them.

Bayes and Adrian Howes faced Jack Bain and Virat Patel in the doubles but went down in four ends, the latter pair recording hat-tricks for the visitors.

Harriers B kept up the pressure on the front runners with a 7-3 victory over Westfield C with a Mick Malins treble and a brace for Martyn Reeves being the main scorers.

Reeves and Neil Stevens added the doubles point in four ends against Charlie Morrow and Charlie Clements, who had earlier won twice for the visitors.

David Hatherall and Mike Terry recorded hat-tricks for St John B to enable them to complete the double over Chesterwell C with a 7-3 success.

Paul Lipczak and Terry teamed up for the doubles and were victorious against Maxine Shears and Stuart Coles, winning 11-9 in the fourth.

With each of the Wanderers C team claiming points by default against a two-man Higham Band A, they ran out victors by 7-3.

James Findlay and Tony Wallis played Keith Stockley, who won twice in the singles, and Nigel Magee in the doubles and took the win in the fourth end.

In Wanderers D’s second victory of the season, a 7-3 success at Westfield D, two firsts were achieved.

One was a fine hat-trick for Mike Howorth and the second was the first treble for the team so far.

Roger Ellingham went mighty close to another but just missed out 16-14 in the fifth against Steve Fuller, who won twice for the home side.

Ellingham and Graham Babbage took the doubles in the fourth end over Mark Holly and Fuller.

Division Three leaders Higham Harriers C could only field two players for their clash at Higham Band B.

But they needn’t have worried as all the remaining points went their way in a 7-3 win.

Devlin Whitmore put up a good fight against Philip Inman and Raylee Burton also gave him a hard time, going the full distance before bowing out in the fifth end.

Higham Harriers D made short work of Chesterwell E with a 9-1 success.

Oli and Matt Hicks won their games convincingly while Katie Hicks slipped up against Stuart Rae, giving Chesterwell their only point.

With the same score as last time they played Stanwick edged ahead of WDHA Challengers by a 6-4 scoreline after winning the final doubles point in the fourth end.

Geoff Neville was the only unbeaten player with Kyle Ghanie coming close.

Stanwick’s Kevin Tivey won twice while Jon Tuplin failed to score, giving Dev Patel and Manav Pandya one point each.

Chesterwell D improved on their 8-2 loss to Wanderers E in their previous meeting by claiming a 5-5 draw.

Daniel Mann, with his ninth hat-trick, paved the way while Duncan Wright fought well against Brian Pearce for his point.

Derek Shears and Steve Hoole won twice for Wanderers.
