Lamb prepared for Leicester stick if Saints win Premiership

Lamb crosses the east midlands divide after Saints’ grand final clash with Leicester on Saturday.

The 27-year-old has been snapped up by the Tigers to add depth to their fly-half department for next season.

But this weekend, he is definitely in the Northampton camp, doing all he can to bring the Premiership trophy to Franklin’s Gardens.

And he says all thoughts of his summer switch have been thrown away ahead of the Twickenham showdown.

“I might get a bit of stick, but I’m not really thinking about it too much,” he said, when asked about the prospect of depriving Tigers of the title.

“I’m just 100 per cent focused on this weekend.

“Leicester are not there year in year out for no reason. They’re one of the best teams around, the most successful team in recent years.

“It’s our first cup final as a club but we’ll take a lot of confidence into it, throw everything at it and see what comes out of it. To win a Premiership title would be a special moment for everyone around the club and the town.

“It would be a special moment in my career if we could do that.”

Lamb’s move to Leicester will bring an end to two mixed seasons at Franklin’s Gardens.

The enigmatic No.10 has divided opinion throughout his stay at Saints, even drawing some boos from small sections of the fans.

But it’s been water off a duck’s back to the player, who prides himself on his creative approach.

“I just pretend they’re shouting at Mooj (Brian Mujati),” he joked. “It’s just a small minority, it wasn’t too big. I’ve had a lot of support from the fans and that’s what I concentrate on.

“You’re not going to please everyone, especially the way I play, but I’m happy with that. I just get on with my job.

“I just try to play with a smile on my face and try to get through it.”

Despite enduring the occasional jeer, Lamb admits his final week at Saints has been emotional.

But he is determined not to get caught up in thoughts of leaving ahead of one of the club’s biggest ever games.

“It’s a bit of a sad time, the last week,” said Lamb. “I’ve been driving Mooj in in the morning and we’ve been talking about it.

“We can’t really get wrapped up in the emotion of it and it will be great to have a send-off by putting a trophy in the cabinet.”

And he added: “I’ve really enjoyed my time here. I’ve enjoyed the competition.

“The fans are great. I’ve had a little bit of stick now and then but it’s a great place to play your rugby.

“The family environment that’s here resembles my time at Gloucester and made me feel right at home.”

Lamb may not have been cause for agreement among Saints fans during his stay at the club, but most will concur he has provided plenty of entertainment.

All that’s left is for the flair player to conjure up some final magic to ensure his current club upset his future employers.
