Alex King says playing on the plastic pitch at Cardiff Arms Park on Friday night could suit Saints.

The attack coach has shrugged off talk of artificial surfaces, which Bath boss Mike Ford feels heighten the risk of injuries.

Ford says his squad have not trained on the plastic pitch at their training ground in a bid to stay fresh for this week’s Amlin Challenge Cup final clash.

But King has no issues with it and says the surface did not come into the Saints coaches’ thinking when they were making their selection decisions.

“It might suit us in some ways because of the way we want to play the game,” he said. “Guys are mad to play.

“It didn’t affect selection. We’ve worked nine months to get to this final and we can’t wait until Friday night.”

Saints have faced Bath twice this season, winning the game at Franklin’s Gardens 43-25 in December, before drawing 19-19 at The Recreation Ground earlier this month.

Both matches provided plenty of entertainment and King is expecting no different in Cardiff on Friday.

“We were in a cracking game down there at The Rec a couple of weeks ago and this will be another belter of a game,” he said.

“It’ll be a packed house at Cardiff Arms Park in a great rugby city. It’s a big European final and all the boys want to play.

“It’s where you want to be after nine months of hard work. We’ve got an opportunity to win something on Friday.”
