Kettering's Kyren through to Indian Open semi-finals

The Kettering snooker star beat Martin Gould 4-2 this morning before seeing off World Tour newcomer Akani Songsermsawad by the same scoreline in this afternoon’s quarter-finals.

Wilson is firmly on course to pick up his second ranking title with his next test being against experienced former world finalist Nigel Bond, currently ranked 71 in the world, tomorrow morning (6.30am BST) with the final being played later in the day.

The last-eight match with Songsermsawad was a scrappy affair and Wilson was 2-1 down before a break of 60 levelled the match.

And the county potter took the next two to secure his place in the last four.

Reflecting on his own form and his opponent, Wilson said: “I personally think he’s (Songsermsawad) a very good prospect.

“My career’s certainly heading in the right direction and long may it continue.

Earlier in the day, Wilson produced four breaks of over 50 to advance into the last eight and set up a clash with later today.

Having been forced to fight back to get through the previous two rounds, Wilson got off to a flyer as breaks of 60 and 91 put him 2-0 up.

Gould pulled one back and then knocked in a break of 81 to make it 2-2.

But, from there, the world number 16 pulled away and further breaks of 83 and 73 wrapped up the victory.

It’s proving to be an impressive first outing in a ranking tournament this season for the Kettering star.

The 24-year-old was forced to pull out of the Riga Masters due to fears over a blood clot in his left leg but he was cleared by his doctor to travel to India for this week.
