The event was held at Franklin’s Gardens with 275 supporters given the chance to hear what director of rugby Jim Mallinder, chief executive Allan Robson, board member Ella Bevan, sister of Leon Barwell, and Hewitt had to say.

Plenty of issues were raised, ranging from matters off the field, such as bar and food service and the relationship with the fans, to events on it.

And Hewitt was happy with how the forum, first set up by former chairman Barwell, who passed away in June, went.

“It was another very good evening following on from Leon’s success at the first forum in February,” said Hewitt, who began the evening by paying tribute to Barwell.

“It’s just good to have the interaction with season ticket holders, who are our largest group of supporters. There are 8,500 of them so it’s very important we meet twice a year, let them know where the club’s going, how we’re improving it, where we’re going and taking any comments from them.

“I thought the questions were good and the feedback was good.”

Recently-appointed chairman Hewitt feels plenty of improvements have been made since the first forum in February.

And he said: “We’ve definitely got a better interaction with the supporters now.

“We’ve made some very positive signings to strengthen the team having finished on a high last season, but with the new players we want to go that step further.”
