Wright wants Steelmen to embrace Foxes' spirit

The Steelmen are rock-bottom ahead of this weekend’s trip to Tamworth after three defeats in a row, the latest of which was a 2-1 loss at AFC Fylde on Tuesday night.

They are four points adrift of safety with just 10 games to play.

But Wright, a former Foxes player and fan of the club, believes his team should look at what they achieved last season.

Leicester won seven of their last nine matches having been written off for relegation and, just under a year later, now find themselves on the brink of one of the most sensational title successes in the history of the game.

And the Corby boss insists he won’t stand for anyone within his ranks giving up on their cause, no matter how hopeless the situation may look.

“We are on 29 points and we have got 30 left to play for,” he said.

“The only thing I expect is that everyone involved here gives it everything they have got.

“I am a Leicester City fan and what they did at the end of last season shows what can happen when a group of people want something enough.

“I think we should look at that and take heart from it.

“It’s too easy just to give up, that’s criminal and anyone who looks like they have given up and isn’t willing to fight for the cause will have major question marks over them for next season.

“It’s certainly something I will be watching closely.”

Three defeats in a row to the promotion-chasing trio of Nuneaton Town, North Ferriby United and Fylde have seemingly undone the good work that was started with a 2-0 win over Tamworth and then a 1-1 draw at Alfreton Town.

But Wright insists it has only gone to show the “reality” of the division his team are trying to compete in.

He added: “To be honest, if you looked at our fixture list then games against Nuneaton, North Ferriby and then AFC Fylde were always going to be hard for us.

“We are trying to compete in a very strong division and we are have come up against teams recently who are trying very hard to get out of it.

“So our points return in recent matches is pretty much what I expected. That may not be what people want to read or hear but it’s the reality of the division we are in.

“But I look at the next three fixtures (Tamworth, AFC Telford United and Hednesford Town) and I see a big opportunity to pick up points and that’s what we must do.”
