We will do our utmost for the club, insists under-pressure Poppies boss Law

Marcus Law has found himself under pressure in recent weeks due to Kettering Town's inconsistent form

The Poppies bounced back from their Buildbase FA Trophy exit at the hands of lower-ranked Witton Albion last weekend by claiming a second successive win in the Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division on Tuesday night as Paul Malone’s first goal for the club sealed a last-gasp 2-1 victory at Kings Langley.

Speculation was rife that time was running out for Law ahead of the midweek clash with the Poppies having endured an inconsistent campaign, despite the club making it clear that a push for promotion was expected.

Kettering face a tough trip to fourth-placed Hitchin Town, who are unbeaten in 12 games and haven’t lost at home this season, on Saturday.

And, when asked about the criticism and pressure that has been placed on him and his players, Law went on the attack.

“I have never been given an ultimatum,” the Poppies boss said.

“The chairman (Ritchie Jeune) and the board are very good people and they understand the reasons behind why things haven’t happened for us.

“But they know and I know that it is all about results. If we had lost on Tuesday then there would have been another discussion about things like there always is after every game whether we win or lose and if there is a decision for anyone to make then it would be made.

“But let’s get something straight, the haters out there are great managers when it comes to hindsight and talking about what should or shouldn’t have been done.

“If I was lucky enough to have hindsight we would have been promoted last season, we would have reached the third round of the FA Cup and we would be talking now about trying to get promoted to the National League.

“It’s easy to sit behind a keyboard and say how you would have done it.

“But the facts are that, in every game, we put a team out there to give their utmost and there haven’t been many times this season where I could accuse our players of not giving everything to try to get results for the club.

“I feel some of the criticism of the players has been based on moments rather than what they do for 90 minutes and that’s where the pressure builds.

“We will keep going and I will keep going until someone says differently. We want to work hard to get good results and we will keep doing that.”
