The Poppies looked to be on course for another win when Lindon Meikle put them in front from close-range after 21 minutes.

But they were unable to hold on as Jefferson Louis converted a penalty 13 minutes from full-time to earn the Puritans a point.

The draw ensured the Poppies stayed in fourth place in the Evo-Stik South League Premier - five points behind leaders King’s Lynn Town.

“We went there with the idea of trying to stifle the game,” Law said.

“We believed they would be looking to get the ball down play some free flowing stuff but they changed their personnel around and went for their more experienced players and it made them a lot bigger.

“I certainly can’t have any complaints about the effort our players put in.

“We didn’t get the passing game going, which was disappointing but I thought the lads worked extremely hard and just didn’t have the fluidity that we have had in previous performances.

“When you are playing 60 games in a season, there will be off-days and the good thing is that we haven’t been beaten away from home and we have taken four points off a good team.”

The Poppies are back on the road this weekend when they head to Frome Town.
