The young defender signed a deal that will keep him at Latimer Park until the end of next season ahead of last weekend’s 0-0 draw with fellow Evo-Stik South League Premier high-fliers Slough Town.

Toseland has been a revelation since joining the Poppies during the summer after he was released by Northampton Town.

He made the left-back position his own following an injury to James Brighton, who is now fit again to ensure the competition for that role is as fierce as ever.

Having helped keep a clean sheet last weekend, Toseland was rested for Tuesday’s goalless draw at Redditch with Brighton earning a starting role.

But Toseland is enjoying that competition and he is delighted his performances have earned him a contract with Kettering.

“Leaving Northampton was a bit of a knock for me but I came here in pre-season and I worked hard,” the defender said.

“I had to wait for my chance and it came and I took it. I just have to keep doing what I am doing.

“It’s really competitive because Brights is back and fit so I have pressure on me to play well whenever I am out there.

“I came here trying to gain a contract and I didn’t think I would do it this early on.

“That was my goal so I am really happy it’s happened.

“But my ultimate goal now is to try to play as many games as I can and try to help the club win the league.”
