Steelmen's win is a building block, says boss Wright

Tommy Wright insists Corby Town's much-needed win over Tamworth at the weekend is just a 'building block' in the battle to survive.

Goals from Greg Mills and Edi Appleton wrapped up a 2-0 victory at Steel Park as Wright’s team moved out of the relegation zone in the Vanarama National League North, although recent signing Nathan Hicks was sent off two bookable offences in the second half.

However, the Steelmen comfortably saw the game out and now Wright is already looking ahead to this week’s work as they prepare for next weekend’s trip to Alfreton Town.

“This is a building block,” the Corby boss said.

“We said to the boys beforehand that it wasn’t about one game. This is just one building block and we probably need another four or five wins minimum to stay in the league.

“The lads are well drilled on what we need to do and they are fully focused on it as well.

“We think we have the right blend of players and we feel like we have a bit of everything to make it hard to predict how we are going to play.

“We will regroup today (Monday) and train again on Thursday and we have got to take what we did against Tamworth into Alfreton next weekend.”

Wright, meanwhile, was delighted to see the drought at Steel Park ended as Corby claimed their first home success for over three months.

“We were sat in the office afterwards and listening to people laughing,” he added.

“There were big smiles in the dressing-room and the music was on full blast. That’s what you want to see and hear

“We like doing what we do to make people happy. It’s not about us, it’s about making a whole family of people happy.

“I think the lads gave the fans something back.”
