Steelmen in for training as they get ready for another big clash

Tommy Wright will bring his Corby Town players in for training tonight (Monday) as they prepare for a crucial trip to AFC Fylde tomorrow evening.

The Steelmen will move out of the bottom three if they avoid defeat in the north west, although it will be a tough task against a side who sit in fourth place and still have hopes of winning automatic promotion.

Corby suffered a 2-1 defeat to Gainsborough Trinity as their miserable form at Steel Park continued on Saturday while Fylde were beaten 3-2 at home by Worcester City having been reduced to 10 men early in the game.

Steelmen boss Wright felt his team’s performance at the weekend wasn’t helped by a number of players not being able to train in the build-up.

And he said: “The boys will now come in tonight because we clearly need to work on a few bits before we play again tomorrow.

“A few of them were unable to train on Thursday so they haven’t trained as much as they should have done and that reflected in the game.

“We are looking at four points from a possible 12 so far this month and we are going to a team who are flying and promotion candidates.

“So we will work on things because we now need to go up to Fylde and get something.”

Corby’s need for points on the board is greater given that they have played more games than most of the clubs who are also struggling at the wrong end of the table.

And they are also without a match at the weekend, although Wright insists that is not much of an issue.

“A lot of teams don’t play tomorrow so it’s swings and roundabouts,” he added.

“Our game comes tomorrow and the boys need to prepare in the same way.

“We need a reaction and we need to get some points on the board because we will have no control over anyone else next weekend.”
