Paul Cox has confirmed forward Decarrey Sheriff has become Kettering Town’s latest summer signing.

The striker, who scored 13 goals in 35 appearances for Concord Rangers in National League South last season, has been with the Poppies for the last few weeks and scored his first goal for the club in the 2-1 friendly defeat at Stourbridge on Tuesday night.

Boss Cox has now revealed Sheriff has signed up at Latimer Park, although the club are yet to officially announce it.

And he also confirmed an interest in former Norwich City youngster Connor Parsons while a potential loan deal for Northampton Town midfielder Caleb Chukwuemeka could also be on the cards after both players also featured at Stourbridge.

The Poppies released an updated list of all their ins and outs so far this summer yesterday (Wednesday) and the ‘ins’ list included the name of Chad Timson, a young full-back who has previously been at AFC Hinckley.

“Decarrey has signed for the club,” the Kettering manager said.

“He had a good goal record at Concord Rangers last season and there was a lot of interest in him around the London area.

“But he has come in and he got his goal for us on Tuesday and he just needs sharpening up as far as match fitness is concerned.

When he played in the friendly at St Ives, he’d not kicked a ball so he needs to catch up in terms of fitness.

“Connor turned down a contract at Hereford and we like the look of him. We gave him a run-out at Stourbridge and that one will be ongoing.

“Caleb is contracted to Northampton and we are taking a good look at him and he is taking a good look at us to see if we can do something with regards to a loan move.

“Chad is a very young lad. We see a lot of potential in him but this is what we are trying to do.We are trying to attract good young players.

“He might be in and around us but we may look to get him out on loan and get him some experience in games.”

Another player who has featured for the club during pre-season but is yet to be confirmed as a new signing is full-back Sam Muggleton, who was released by Chesterfield at the end of last season.

The left-back is coming back from a horrendous injury while on loan at Darlington in February as he suffered a fractured femur, three ruptured ligaments and a tear on his knee tendon.

And Cox added: “Sam is one I have a lot of time for and one I really like.

“The problem for Sam is that the injury he sustained in February was awful.

“I know him and his family really well. We know there is a player in there, he’s played in League Two and he’s won the National League with Barnet. He has got a ton of experience for this level.

“But we need to get him not just physically fit but psychologically fit. It was a big injury he had.

“Sam has come to us and he knew we would look after him. We are trying to nurture him back to full fitness so it might take a bit time but hopefully he will come through, even if it is a bit later than others.”
