'˜Professional' Diamonds impress Peaks as unbeaten run goes on
Andy Peaks was impressed with a 'professional' display as AFC Rushden & Diamonds extended their unbeaten run in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Division One South to 12 matches.
Two goals from Tom Lorraine and Ben Ford’s first for the club secured a comfortable 3-0 victory at Loughborough Dynamo as Diamonds moved to within one point of the play-off places.
And Peaks was delighted with the response of his team following their Buildbase FA Trophy second qualifying round exit at the hands of Lincoln United in last Tuesday night’s replay.
“I thought we produced a professional performance,” the Diamonds boss said.
“It was a good, all-round effort and that’s what we needed after the disappointment in midweek.
“We needed to get back to winning ways and that’s what happened. I am sure we can play better and we could have scored more goals.
“But we got some players back in the fold, we have kept a clean sheet and scored three goals so I am happy.
“We are on a good run in the league, we are sitting in a nice position and we will just try to keep it going.”
Peaks, meanwhile, paid tribute to frontman Lorraine who marked his return to the starting line-up following illness by opening the scoring after just six minutes before adding another in the second half.
“Tom has been down with illness and we rested him for most of last weekend’s game because he needed it,” Peaks said.
“But he trained on Thursday and I could see he was fit and we went with him.
“And within five minutes or so he had scored and that’s what he’s all about.”
Diamonds are back in action on Tuesday night when they take on county rivals Corby Town in the first round of the Integro League Cup at the Dog & Duck.
