Long-serving Samuel launched his ‘President’s Appeal’ after the Poppies’ season was suspended in a bid to help cover bills and costs at Latimer Park.

Samuel had always planned to close the appeal at the end of April and he has been delighted by the response.

“At a time like this football has to be somewhere way down the list of life priorities,” he said.

Against that background I launched my appeal for funds for the football club in anticipation that the last six home league games would not be played.

I am delighted to say that over £ 15,000 has now been raised and donations are still coming in pending the closure of the appeal. Over 120 donations have been received.

“I have been overwhelmed by the generosity of our fans who have donated unconditionally to support their club. This is after fans have raised considerable sums over recent years through different appeals to help build the boundary fence and provide a new terrace.

“My sincere thanks go to each and everyone who has donated.

"Hopefully this amount of support will give confidence to the club board to continue to move the club forward but I accept that, in the current climate, this will not be easy.

"I believe, with the continued involvement and enthusiastic commitment of the fans, that it has been clear that the community value the club and want it to succeed.

"The end of my appeal will allow the board to consider it’s financial strategy moving forward through the summer and into the new season, whenever that may be."
