Poppies must fight through it, says boss Law

Marcus Law insists Kettering Town will keep 'working and fighting through it' as they prepare for tomorrow's (Saturday) short trip to St Ives Town.

The pressure is right on the Poppies boss and his players after a poor start to the Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division season.

Having made their intentions clear of bidding for a push for promotion, Kettering have instead struggled with inconsistency and find themselves just three points clear of the relegation zone going into tomorrow’s clash.

The Poppies have won just three of their last 12 games in all competitions and have just one victory to their name in their past eight outings in the league.

Law believes “circumstances” have worked against his team so far but he accepts the campaign is far from what most expected.

However, he insists his team will give it everything they have tomorrow as they try to ensure they don’t get sucked into matters at the wrong end of the table.

“It is proving to be one of those seasons for us,” the Poppies boss said.

“The injuries keep biting us and there have been a lot of uncontrollable issues that have come about.

“We wanted this season to be one where we were up there and it hasn’t happened so far.

“I feel there have been circumstances surrounding that. It’s been 33 per cent down to uncontrollables such as injuries, 33 per cent down to player decisions and 33 per cent down to me.

“But we have to keep working and fighting through it. We know it’s another important game for us.

“At the moment it’s dependent on which Kettering Town decides to turn up because I know what the players are capable of.

“We will look at the squad and then pick the right 11 that we feel can go out there and give everything for the cause.”

The Poppies are set to be without the injured quartet of Ben Bradshaw, Liam Bateman, Lewis Hornby and goalkeeper Paul White.

And Kettering are likely to run into a familiar face tomorrow with former Poppies striker Dubi Ogbonna now among the ranks at St Ives.
