Poppies boss Law: Sandy wants to be playing

Elliot Sandy has been released by Kettering Town

Sandy, who established himself as a favourite amongst Poppies supporters for his efforts over two spells with the club, confirmed the news of his departure on social media last night (Tuesday).

And while he insisted there were “no hard feelings”, he did admit he had felt “hard done by” after being restricted to just substitute appearances of late.

Boss Law said: “The lack of games has been frustrating for him and, like any other footballer, he just wants to be playing.

“That’s football and that’s how it is. Players come and go through clubs left, right and centre.

“There will be a lot of people who like Elliot and appreciate what he has done for the club. That has been acknowledged.

“He wants to be playing and over the last 10 weeks he has been frustrated and he feels he can offer a bit more.

“I wish him all the best. He’s a good lad and he has served Kettering very well.”

Law, meanwhile, insists Sandy’s departure will not be the signal for a flurry of transfer activity at Latimer Park.

“Every manager is always on the lookout but there’s nothing that is in the pipeline right at this moment in time,” he added.

“There seems to be this feeling that we are still a full-time club but the truth, regardless of how many players we have, only the ones on the bench and the ones on the pitch get paid.

“If there is a player that becomes available that we believe can improve the squad then we will look at it. But there are no major changes planned at this stage.”

The Poppies have also confirmed that goalkeeper Paul Walker will miss the rest of the season after he developed a blood clot on his calf.
