Poppies boss Law is focused on the 'quest'

Marcus Law wants Kettering Town to put things right as they put all their focus on their 'quest' in the Evo-Stik South League Premier.

The Poppies suffered more disappointment in knockout football on Tuesday night as they were beaten 3-2 by local rivals AFC Rushden & Diamonds in the second round of the BigFreeBet.com Challenge Cup at Hayden Road.And while that was happening, a couple of key games in the league were also taking place.Leaders King’s Lynn Town moved four points clear at the top after a 4-0 victory over Royston Town while Weymouth leapfrogged the Poppies to move into second after they beat Tiverton Town 2-0.Kettering do have games in hand on both sides and, aside from next Tuesday’s NFA Hillier Senior Cup quarter-final at Daventry Town, there is now nothing else to distract them from the main aim of a promotion push.A crucial spell is now approaching with the Poppies facing 10 more league games before Christmas, six of them being at Latimer Park.That run of matches starts with a long trip to Dorchester Town this weekend.And Law said: “I want us to go out against Dorchester and put a few things right.“It’s important we give the fans something to think about and smile about.“We are fully focused on the league. That’s the way it has been from the very start of the season.“To do well in the league this season is what we desire, it’s our quest.“We know how important every game is and we have seen in midweek that a couple of teams have won their matches to put pressure on the rest of us.“Games in hand only come in to use if you win them and we have now got a few fixtures coming up where we will need to put pressure on those around us.”Law made a number of changes on Tuesday night, some of which were enforced, due to injuries and suspensions while Marshall Willock was called up to play for his parent club Chesterfield in the FA Youth Cup after he was set to feature.But those changes may have shown that his squad is lacking some depth.And that is something he is keen to address in the near future.“It’s definitely something we are looking at,” he said.“We are going to look at recruiting a few bodies to go into the Christmas period.“It is a very busy and important time and we need to make sure the squad is strong for it.”
