The former Histon manager joined as Marcus Law’s number two in November and played a key role in the Poppies’ upturn in fortunes as they chase a play-off place in the Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division.

But Page was offered the chance to join SJK as assistant-manager to boss Simo Valakari while his role will also see him involved with the club’s academy.

SJK won their first-ever title in Finland’s top flight last season and Law, who is preparing his team for Saturday’s trip to Weymouth, insists the Poppies couldn’t stand in Page’s way.

And the Kettering boss says he will now utilise his current staff before a decision is made on a replacement.

“Brian has contacts in Finland from his days with Histon and out of the blue he had a phone call offering him a position,” Law said.

“He went out there to meet them and sort out a deal and there was little we could do in terms of countering it because we are still a part-time club.

“We wish him all the best and during his short time here he has been very enjoyable to work with.

“With there being no games recently, I haven’t been running around looking for anyone.

“We will utilise the people we have here and we will see how things pan out over the next couple of weeks before deciding on what we are going to do.”

The Poppies are set to return to action on the south coast this weekend after three weeks of inactivity due to a series of postponed matches.

The trip to Weymouth is followed by another away-day at Hungerford Town next Saturday after their scheduled match at Redditch United on Monday was postponed due to the Reds having to play a Birmingham Senior Cup match.
