Andy Peaks has labelled tomorrow's (Saturday) home clash with rock-bottom North Greenford United as 'a pivotal game' for his promotion-chasing AFC Rushden & Diamonds side.

Diamonds return to the Dog & Duck having claimed a 2-2 draw at in-form Northwood last weekend, despite playing for 55 minutes with just 10 men following Connor Kennedy’s first-half dismissal.

And boss Peaks is now keen to follow that up against a Greenford side who have won just three league games all season.

Diamonds go into the clash still sitting in second place in the Evo-Stik Southern League Division One Central, two points behind leaders Chalfont St Peter with two games in hand.

“I think this is a big game for us, a pivotal one,” Peaks said.

“Everyone expects us to beat them. But I watched them play Northwood last week and they should have won that game.

“They have a new manager and new players and I am expecting a really tough game. That’s not a cliche, it’s the truth.

“A win will make the draw at Northwood look like a very good point. We have to follow it up.

“It’s a big game for obvious reasons but our home form hasn’t been great recently and we have lost a couple, albeit to decent sides.

“We want to make our home a fortress and that task will start on Saturday.”

Diamonds will be assessing the fitness of skipper Richard Bunting after he was withdrawn at half-time last weekend due to a calf problem.

Kennedy is available for the clash with North Greenford and will serve his one-match ban for the red card he received last Saturday when Diamonds head to Aylesbury next weekend.
