Peaks so disappointed as Diamonds are beaten in the big one

The visitors took an early lead through Ryan Plowright and that proved to be enough as they cut Diamonds’ advantage at the top of the Evo-Stik Southern League Division One Central to just one point.

Over 600 fans were on hand for the game but the vast majority of them were left with very little to cheer about as Diamonds served up one of their worst performances of the season.

Peaks struggled to find the reasons why his team were so poor on the day, although he felt things were summed up with skipper Liam Dolman needing stitches for a head injury he suffered during the warm-up.

“From start to finish we didn’t really get going,” the Diamonds boss said.

“We gave a poor goal away early on and didn’t recover from it.

“I can’t put my finger on why. We didn’t pass the ball well enough, we didn’t play with enough tempo and we didn’t ask enough questions of them.

“I think the day was summed up when Liam fell over in the warm up and cracked his head. He needed stitches and that summed it up, nothing went right for us.

“I am disappointed because it’s a big game and we haven’t performed. They set up to make it difficult for us and getting the early goal probably made it easier for them.

“We played into their hands and when we had the ball we didn’t do anything with it.

“The whole thing was flat on and off the pitch and I have not got a clue why that was.

“The fans would be looking for us to drive them on and give them something to cheer about.

“It’s a two-way thing and we gave them nothing to shout about. It just wasn’t good enough from us.”

Diamonds have 10 games left to play in the league this season, the first of which is at Potters Bar Town next weekend.
