Peaks: Diamonds will only get stronger

Andy Peaks believes AFC Rushden & Diamonds are only going to get stronger as the Evo-Stik South League East season goes on.

Diamonds are now on a run of just one defeat in nine league matches after they claimed a fine 4-1 victory at Uxbridge.

The win moved Peaks’ side up to third place in the table and to within a point of second-placed Cambridge City and to within five of unbeaten leaders Moneyfields.

Tom Lorraine, who scored his 60th goal for the club in the process, and Ryan Robbins both hit braces to secure the victory.

And it left the manager very satisfied.

“It was a great result for us, I am very happy,” Peaks said.

“We probably could have been even more clinical and won by more but to go away from home and score four goals and win the game comfortably is very pleasing.

“We had lots of the ball, we created lots of chances and it was pleasing to see the two strikers share the goals as well.

“It was a very good day for us and we are in a really good position.

“To be honest, we are just where I want us to be and I think we will only get stronger as the season goes on.

“The squad is looking good, we even had a couple missing for this game as well so to go and win by that margin in that situation was very pleasing.”

Diamonds are back in action on Tuesday night when they host Kettering Town in the second round of the BigFreeBet.com Challenge Cup.
