No corners are turned as Poppies seek momentum

But the Poppies boss is hoping his players can finally start building some momentum as they bid to build on back-to-back away wins in the Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division.

The inconsistency of this season can be summed up by the last three matches.

A 7-0 demolition of St Ives Town was followed by a poor 2-1 defeat at Witton Albion in the Buildbase FA Trophy last weekend before Law’s men hit back with 
the victory Kings Langley as they battled back from a goal down.

Liam Canavan levelled things up before Paul Malone grabbed his first goal for the club late on to secure the points and move Kettering back into the top 10 for the first time since September.

The Poppies face a tough test this weekend as they head to fourth-placed Hitchin Town, who are unbeaten in 12 matches and are yet to taste defeat on their home ground this season.

That is followed by back-to-back home games against Redditch United next Tuesday and Dorchester Town a week tomorrow.

And Law insists the Poppies won’t be getting ahead of themselves as they look to finally meet the expectations of the club’s board and fans.

But he does believe they can haul themselves back into the play-off picture, just like they did in the second half of last season before ultimately missing out on a top-five finish by a point.

The Kettering boss said: “It’s certainly nowhere near a corner turned but is the aim we have still achievable? I look at last season and I believe it is.

“It’s all about whether we can build on these two away wins we have had and if we can then we may be able to start to creating some momentum.

“We are not as confident as we would like to be.

“It’s hard to instil confidence aside from picking up good results, that’s where it all comes from.

“So we have to keep working and keep trying to pick up those positive results.”

Hitchin have been flying of late and go into this weekend on the back of an FA Trophy replay success over Biggleswade Town while their last outing in the league saw them win 1-0 at fellow high-flyers Slough Town.

“We know how difficult it is going to be,” Law said.

“Hitchin are going very well, they are on a long unbeaten run and they haven’t lost at home.

“So if we can go there and put in a good performance and come out unscathed then it will be very helpful to us.”
