More changes on the way for struggling Steelmen

Corby Town boss Gary Mills is set to make more changes ahead of this weekend's clash with Workington

The Steelmen’s situation at the wrong end of the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Premier Division became all-the-more desperate last weekend as their 4-1 home defeat to leaders Rushall Olympic left them a massive 12 points adrift of safety.

No matter what happens at Steel Park tomorrow, Corby will be rooted to the foot on Christmas Day as they stare a second relegation in the space of 12 months in the face.

Mills’ arrival in October following the departure of Tommy Wright has not yet had the desired effect.

A number of players were brought in but results didn’t improve, indeed they have taken just one point from 21 they have played for since Mills joined.

Izale McLeod left after just one appearance due to a “change in personal circumstances” while Jordan Smith this week returned to Stamford after just a handful of games for Corby.

And there looks set to be more new arrivals before the weekend with Mills insisting he has been “fair” to the players who were already in place when he took the job.

“I think I have been more than fair with the crop of players I inherited,” he said.

“When I came in, I was told I would need to make wholesale changes. But I wanted to give them a chance and I think I have been fair.

“So we will look at bringing one or two more in now.

“No matter who is out there, they will be taking a wage from the club and they need to show their worth.

“It’s another home game and it’s one we have got to be looking to get three points from.

“We played them fairly recently and we know it will be another tough match.”

No matter who lines up for the Steelmen this weekend, Mills is keen for them to eradicate the “individual mistakes” that cost them so dearly last Saturday.

“There was some schoolboy defending to be totally honest,” he added.

“The individual mistakes are costing us badly at the moment and we need to cut them out quickly.

“I actually thought we played some decent stuff in the game.

“We probably passed the ball as well as we have done for a while.

“But when you are making individual errors, you will always be punished.”
