Monthly award is for everyone, says Flourmen boss Mallows
Whitworth boss James Mallows insists his manager of the month award for February is as much for his players as it is for him.
The promotion-chasing Flourmen won all three games they played in Division One of the ChromaSport & Trophies United Counties League last month, scoring 16 goals and conceding none in the process.
Their bid for elevation has been hit by a period of inactivity due to the weather over the past week or two but they are set to return to action at Bourne Town this weekend.
Mallows was delighted to receive the accolade for last month but, as far as the promotion bid is concerned, he insist their approach won’t change.
“It’s nice for the players to get that bit of recognition,” Mallows said.
“We scored 16 goals and kept three clean sheets during February so I think the award was justified.
“They call it the manager of the month award but I see it as an award for everyone.
“It’s the players who have gone out there and scored goals and cleared balls off the line.
“As far as the league goes, obviously we would like to catch up with these games in hand to see exactly where we are.
“It means we are going to be playing when the teams around us will be twiddling their thumbs and waiting to see what we do.
“But our approach isn’t changing. We are literally taking it a game at a time.
“I know we are at Bourne on Saturday but I couldn’t tell you what our next game is after that because I haven’t looked that far ahead.”
Elsewhere this weekend, Rushden & Higham United face a tough trip to fourth-placed Olney Town while Stewarts & Lloyds take on Raunds Town at Occupation Road.
