Mixed emotions for Mettam as Steelmen let lead slip to draw with high-flying Coleshill

Boss Leon Mettam was again left with mixed emotions as Corby Town gave up a lead to draw 2-2 with play-off chasing Coleshill Town in the Pitching-In Northern Premier League Midlands Division at Steel Park on Wednesday night.

The Steelmen had fought back from a 1-0 half-time deficit to lead 2-1 on the hour thanks to quickfire goals from Harrah Jones, who netted a 48th-minute penalty, and a 58th-minute strike from Jordon Crawford.

But a lapse in concentration allowed Coleshill to level just six minutes later, and although Corby pressed hard for a winner they had to settle for a share of the spoils in what was their first home game since January 24.

The point saw the Steelmen rise one place to 11th, and they remain nine points adrift of Coleshill, but with three games in hand so are still part of the play-off picture.

"It feels a bit like Loughborough again, it feels like we have dropped two points," Mettam told @corbytownfc.

"We have gone 2-1 up, and it was one of those where we started well and then we let them into the game, and the most frustrating thing from the first half was conceding from a dead ball, a throw-in.

"After all the hard work we had put in, we went in 1-0 down at half-time and didn't really deserve that.

"We have been going on about for a couple of weeks that we have been really good for 45 minutes and then dropping off, and I thought they went out in the second half and were brilliant.

"We went out all guns blazing and out Coleshill, who are top five side, on the back foot and we were very good in the second half.

"In the last 10 minutes there was only one team pushing to win the game and looking like winning the game, and that was us, so it is something to build on."

Wednesday's match was the first of eight matches Corby are due to play in March, with seven of those at home.

Mettam's side are back at Steel Park on Saturday when they entertain third-placed Basford United (ko 3pm), and then next Wednesday county rivals Wellingborough Town are the visitors.
