Mitchell wants Doughboys to attack in the battle to survive

The Doughboys are currently just one place above the ChromaSport & Trophies United Counties League Premier Division drop zone.

Mitchell is convinced his side are good enough to stay up and is taking a positive approach to the relegation scrap.

He said: “We are going to Northern Star on Saturday to attack.

“We will go there looking to win the game.

“We won’t sit back. We want to win the game and if we play at the same tempo and put the work in like we did at Kempston, there’s every chance we will come away with something.

“We have a strong, solid defence and when we start scoring goals, we will be fine.”

The Doughboys have failed to score in their last four games and Mitchell says the goal drought has to end soon.

“There’s a danger teams will pull away from us and we can’t let that happen,” he said.

“We don’t want it to go down to the wire.

“We have to turn our season around soon.”

Following this weekend’s trip to Northern Star, who were 1-0 winners at the Dog & Duck earlier this season, the Doughboys have back-to-back home games, against Northampton Spencer and Sleaford Town.

Mitchell said: “We tend to play better at home.

“We will make it hard for teams to come to Wellingborough.”

Desborough Town boss Chris Bradshaw says he wants his side to be the new Cogenhoe United.

The sides meet at Compton Park tomorrow when Ar Tarn will look to extend their unbeaten run in the Premier Division to five matches.

Bradshaw declared himself happy with the progress the club have made since he became manager in October but says his ultimate target is to emulate Cogenhoe’s success.

He said: “Cogenhoe are where we want to be.

“They are around the top eight every season and we want to be overtaking them.

“We want to be the top Northants side in the Premier Division.”

Early in his spell in charge at Desborough, Bradshaw saw Cogenhoe end Ar Tarn’s interest in the Knockout Cup with a 2-0 win at Waterworks Field.

Bradshaw, who saw his side extend their unbeaten run twith a 1-1 draw at Harrowby United last week, said: “We have made a couple of changes in the back four since then. We look a lot tighter.

“It’s going to be a good test for us and a good test for them as well.

“Cogenhoe will definitely know they’ve been in a game at the final whistle.”

Rothwell Corinthians hope to welcome back skipper Ben Johnson for the trip to Holbeach United on tomorrow.

Johnson, who’s been ruled out of the last two games with an ankle ligament injury, is expected to come back in for Aaron Watts, who is suspended.

Corinthians boss Shaun Sparrow said: “Aaron has done a sterling job for us and it shows we have strength in depth, but you want your skipper on the pitch.”

Johnson comes back for a tough-looking fixture at Carters Park.

Holbeach are currently fifth, but Sparrow said: “We take confidence from our last two games. We won at Northampton Spencer and we gave Kempston a good game.

“We know we can challenge anyone on our day.”

Corinthians, meanwhile, have a NFA Hillier Cup semi-final against Kettering Town to look forward to on Tuesday, February 2.

Sparrow added: “For us, it’s a final.

“These are the games the players want to play in and I hope there’s a good crowd there to see it.”
