Mettam's pride as Steelmen bounce back for Carlton caning to sink Shepshed

Jordon Crawford was the match winner as Corby Town bounced back from their weekend mauling at Carlton Town to sink Shepshed Dynamo 1-0 at Steel Park on Wednesday night.

The Steelmen, beaten 6-1 at the champions-elect on Saturday, claimed a first home win since October to move back into the top half of the Pitching-In Northern Premier League Midlands Division.

It was also a first win in nine games, a run stretching back to mid-January, as well as a first home win under Leon Mettam's management, and the Corby boss was delighted to get those monkeys off his and his team's back.

"It was important to react from Saturday after we went to the league leaders and got tucked in," Mettam told @corbytownfc.

"But we weren't too bothered about that, we were more bothered about how we reacted and to play another form team in Shepshed at home and go from conceding six to keeping a clean sheet is pleasing.

"The way they reacted to that loss was massive.

"The first half wasn't pretty, we rode our luck at times, but it is all about staying in the game and when you do get that chance you have to take it.

"Crawfs has hit a little bit of form and his scoring right on half-time was a really good time to score as it gives us something to hold on to.

"They did that with credit, and the longer the game went on I thought it looked like we would score more.

"If you look at the fixtures we have had over the past couple of months, I think we have played seven of the top 10 teams.

"We have had a really tough couple of months, but we huffed and puffed, but to come back from Saturday and get this result just eases the pressure a little bit."

Corby have now risen to 11th in the table, and to within nine points off the play-off places, while moving 11 points above the bottom four.

On Saturday the Steelmen entertain Bedworth United at Steel Park (ko 3pm).
