McDonald warns Poppies against complacency as they target quickfire win double over Sudbury

Liam McDonald insists Kettering Town will be taking nothing for granted as they face a quickfire rematch with relegation-haunted AFC Sudbury at Latimer Park on Tuesday night (ko 7.45pm).

The two sides only met in Sussex on Saturday, with the Poppies scoring three late goals to run out as 4-1 winners and boost their chances of claiming a play-off place in the Pitching-In Southern League Premier Central.

The Poppies know a win on Tuesday would see them move to within just three points of current fifth-placed side Needham Market, with a game in hand, and they will go into the match as big favourites against a side sitting second bottom and 11 points adrift of safety.

But McDonald is warning his players against any sort of complacency.

"Saturday was a brilliant afternoon, we scored four goals, but we won't go mad," said the Poppies boss. "We have an important game on Tuesday, and that is set up now for a massive game, the biggest match of our season.

"We need the fans to come out and we need to make sure we come out of that with three points.

"Sudbury are desperate and we are not going to take it for granted that we are just going to turn up and win.

"But at half-time on Saturday, if we can turn the screw in the second half and go and hurt them then that will be good.

"They are going to come to ours on Tuesday and they are going to know we have hurt them on set-plays, they are going to know Eddie Panter is quick, they are going to know the two Kais (Williams and Fifield) are really quick, and they are going to know we have a big, strong back three or back four.

"They are going to know all of this, but we know what their strengths are, and we have a lot of strengths in our dressing room.

"If we can win, and it is an if because we won't take anything for granted, then it sets up Saturday at home against Quorn to be massive."
