McDonald delighted as 'combative' Inman makes move to Poppies from Bedford Town

Kettering Town boss Liam McDonald has hailed the signing of former AFC Rushden & Diamonds central midfielder Ryan Inman, insisting he is just the type of player the club needs.

The Poppies manager believes Inman's physical edge is something that his midfield is missing, and he is looking forward to Inman having an immediate impact on his team.

Inman, who has also played for Harborough Town and was signed from National League North outfit Bedford Town, was in line for a debut in last weekend's postponed clash with Alvechurch, but is now set to take his bow in Saturday's trip to Bishop's Stortford .

"We haven't got a combative midfielder, we simply don't have one," said McDonald.

"We have Andi (Thanoj) and Alfie (Lewis) who are fantastic technical footballers, but on a pitch like the one would have been on Saturday for example, or going away in early February when the pitches aren't conducive to getting the ball down and playing - Ryan will go and tackle or will go and land on second balls.

"I think we've just missed having a body like that in the squad."

Despite suggesting last week that the current squad were in place until the end of the season, McDonald also confirmed that new faces will be coming through the door very soon.

"We're trying to change the mentality of the squad a little bit," he said. "We've got a few irons in the fire - we're trying to get good people - good for the dressing room. We are looking, but we are still in the same situation.

"We have a number of contracted football players at this club and one thing we don’t want to do, and I don't want to put my name to, is to put the club under massive pressure, so we have to go with what we've got.

"But there will also be a couple more bodies coming this week for sure, and at the right end of the pitch that we want."

The Poppies have a free midweek before they go to a Bishop's Stortford side that is currently 11th in the table, one place and three points above the Poppies.

The Hertfordshire side played out a 0-0 draw at seventh-placed Redditch United on Saturday, and are on a run of just one defeat in their past seven games.
