The Flourmen have 10 games remaining, the first of which is a local derby against Rushden & Higham United at the Victoria Mill Ground tomorrow (Saturday).

And Whitworth, who thrashed Woodford United 6-0 last weekend, have their fate in their own hands as they lie four points off the promotion places with four games in hand on Bugbrooke, who currently occupy second place.

It’s been a remarkable turnaround for the club this season but Mallows is refusing to get too carried away.

“It’s been a really good season when you consider we finished 15th last season,” Mallows said.

“We have managed to climb up the table pretty much from nowhere but with almost the same group of players.

“What we are trying to do now is keep ourselves grounded and taking each game at a time.

“We will try to win every game, which will be difficult, but we know we are in a really good position to threaten the promotion places.

“No-one is expecting anything from us. We have worked hard and got the rewards for it.

“But it won’t be easy this weekend, I expect it to be another tough local derby.

“Hopefully we can pick up the three points and then I am hoping we can put together an unbeaten run and see where it leaves us.”

The Flourmen will be hoping for a favour from local rivals Irchester United tomorrow when they head to second-placed Bugbrooke.

Thrapston Town, who were beaten 3-1 at home by leaders Daventry Town on Tuesday night, take on Blackstones at Chancery Lane while Raunds Town
also have home advantage against Lutterworth Athletic at Kiln Park.

Strugglers Stewarts & Lloyds and Burton Park Wanderers are both on the road at Long Buckby and Potton United respectively.
