Le Masurier says Diamonds have to sharpen up in attack after Hayden Road bore draw

Assistant boss Jim Le Masurier admitted there was a feeling of disappointment around Hayden Road after Saturday's underwhelming 0-0 draw with Coleshill Town.

Diamonds made it successive stalemates to start the new Pitching-in Northern Premier League Midlands Division, as they followed up their opening 1-1 result at Barwell last Monday with Saturday's draw.

It was a first home match of the season for Elliot Sandy's side, but Diamonds failed to sparkle as they struggled to create chances, while also snuffing out anything Coleshill had to offer.

It was far from a classic, and Le Masurier admitted to @AFCRD: "We are disappointed with that performance.

"We had too many players performing at four and five out of 10, and we didn't so enough to win the game.

"The good thing about it is that we are difficult to beat, but going forward on Saturday we weren't good enough, it's as simple as that.

"When the ball went forward it wasn't kept well enough, collectively.

"We said at half-time, we were constantly trying to play into areas and channels where we hadn't manipulated that movement and create that space.

"In the second half we didn't do enough to open them up, so we can't argue that we deserved to win the match, because we didn't.

"Coleshill were hard to beat, but we played into their hands as well."

Diamonds started the campaign with a 5-0 FA Cup win Kimblerley Miners Welfare, but have not been at their fluent best since, and Le Masurier feels the fact the players had to play three times in eight days played its part.

"It has been a heavy two weeks for the lads, with the sun, with the fixture list, with playing the Saturday-Monday," said the former Kettering Town boss.

"We gave them a rest last week and just let them run on the Thursday in the hope they would come back fresh, but it didn't look like they did so there is still work to do."

Diamonds will be hoping they can give their home supporters more to cheer when they return to Hayden Road on Tuesday night to take on newly-promoted Nuneaton Town (ko 7.45pm).
