Law '˜stunned and shocked' after Poppies' latest home setback

The Poppies went into the clash on the back of a three-match unbeaten run in the Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division but their home hoodoo struck yet again.

They couldn’t have asked for a better start as James Brighton gave them the lead after just 49 seconds.

But they were unable to build on that and they were made to pay as a mistake from goalkeeper Dean Snedker gifted Redditch an equaliser before a catalogue of errors led to Max Loveridge’s winner three minutes from the end.

Law was almost at a loss to explain how his team had conspired to turn a winning position into a losing one.

The Poppies are back on home soil again on Saturday when they host Dorchester Town and the pressure will now be back on Law and his team to deliver in front of their own fans.

“If you go to any home loss we have had this season, you can just replay everything that has been said,” Law said.

“We have been in a very controlled position and then moments of absolute madness swings the game.

“For the first goal the rule of thumb for a goalkeeper is that if you know you are coming to get it then you come and get it.

“He has gambled on the fact that their lad is going to break through but then the ball has ricocheted off three players and there was no communication.

“And for the second, poor decision-making has cost us a free-kick that didn’t need to be conceded and it has put us on the back foot.

“We look back at all the goals we have conceded at home and I don’t think I have seen a good one.

“I keep saying the same things and people are tired of hearing it because it is the same mistakes and outcomes.

“I am just stunned and shocked that it has happened again.

“I came away from last Saturday (the 0-0 draw at Hitchin Town) thinking we are going to become spoilers and see things out.

“We have had chances, we have hit the post, the goalkeeper has made saves and we have had set-pieces to build pressure but we always gift the opposition.

“My goalkeeper actually hasn’t got to wash his kit, that’s how embarrassing it is.

“We looked solid, we looked in control and we looked like we could get another goal.

“We needed to get a second goal, that’s now clear as day but we should be seeing things out.

“We kept a clean sheet last weekend by being extremely solid and not making silly mistakes.

“And here we are, at home we are doing it regularly.”
