Last-gasp draw felt like a win for Corby boss Wright

Ben Milnes was the late hero for Corby Town as his stoppage-time goal earned a 1-1 draw at Alfreton Town

The Steelmen looked to be heading for defeat after Todd Jordan’s header had given the in-form Reds a first-half lead at the Impact Arena.

But Corby battled back in the second half and Ben Milnes was the late hero as he grabbed the equaliser in the first minute of stoppage-time.

The draw was enough to move the Steelmen out of the bottom three in the Vanarama National League North.

And boss Wright was thrilled with another team effort as his team followed up last weekend’s 2-0 win over Tamworth with a good result on the road.

“We thoroughly deserved the point,” Wright said.

“Alfreton will probably feel a bit hard done by as the goal came so late and that’s understandable.

“At the start of the second half they had the chances to go 2-0 up but we fought back and we created good opportunities ourselves.

“We went a bit more attacking by putting Ryan Robbins and Massiah McDonald on and we looked really dangerous.

“I thought Massiah was outstanding when he came on but there were good performances all over the pitch again. The back four were brilliant for us and it was another excellent team display.

“It felt like a win at the end. It’s a great result for us with the way the game went.”

Wright, meanwhile, had a word of praise for goalscorer Milnes.

“I am delighted for Ben because I have been giving him a bit of stick for his lack of goals,” he added.

“But he has been a joy to watch in training over the past few weeks and his performances in matches have been getting better and better.

“He deserved that moment and I am very pleased for him.”
