Lamb appointed as new Wellingborough Town boss

Wellingborough Town have appointed Paul Lamb as their new manager following the departure of Jake Stone.

Lamb is no stranger to the Dog & Duck, having been assistant-manager to Andy Peaks at former ground tenants AFC Rushden & Diamonds from May 2014 until July 2019 when he left due to work commitments.

Lamb started his playing career at Northampton Town, making his Football League debut at the age of 17 in the 1991-92 season.

His career in non-League football saw him make over 200 appearances for then-Conference South outfit Wealdstone, spending six seasons there as a player from 1997.

After moving to Boreham Wood from the Stones, he subsequently played for Hemel Hempstead Town, Aylesbury United, Brackley Town, Banbury United and Bedworth United before taking up the position of player-coach at Daventry Town.

In his first season, he went on to help Daventry clinch the UCL title.

The following season Lamb was promoted to player/assistant manager and another successful campaign saw the pair guide Daventry to the play-off final where they were narrowly beaten by Hitchin Town stopping them gaining back-to-back promotions.

Lamb, however, paid a heavy price for the play-off run as it was in the semi-final where he suffered a re-occurring back injury, meaning that this was to be his last playing appearance.

The following season in 2011 Fuller and Lamb moved to the Southern League Premier Division to take up the reins at Banbury and here they reached the Southern League Cup final for the first time in the club’s history.

At the start of the 2013-14 campaign, Lamb teamed up with Cogenhoe United manager Andy Marks and he helped guide the Cooks to their best league position in the UCL since 2006-07, also reaching the Hillier Cup final.

Doughboys co-chairmen Mark Darnell and Darren Wingrove said in a statement: “Paul has had a successful playing and coaching career to date, and we hope that this experience will help to continue to develop and progress the club.”

Another United Counties League club Rothwell Corinthians, meanwhile, have also appointed a new management team with Ben Watts , Richard King and John Boseley taking charge of first-team duties.

Former boss Wayne Abbott departed due to increased work commitments, after a spell which saw him lead the club to a UCL League Cup success.

Boseley and Tom Johnson were in caretaker charge as Corinthians took part in the UCL’s supplementary competition in the last few weeks but they have now made some permanent appointments.

Former Raunds Town manager Watts has most recently been with Yaxley while King has been managing at the Shopmates.

They are also retaining the services of the club’s existing physio Adam Boss.
