Kinniburgh urges table-topping Steelmen to stay focused

Steve Kinniburgh's table-topping Corby Town take on Barton Rovers at Steel Park this weekend

The Steelmen followed up their superb 6-0 demolition of fellow high-flyers Bromsgrove Sporting with a 5-2 success over Aylesbury FC at Steel Park last weekend, which sent them a point clear at the summit.Still unbeaten in the league this season, Corby will be hoping to make it three home wins in a row when they take on Barton Rovers tomorrow (Saturday).And while Kinniburgh is delighted with the way his team’s season is shaping up, he has urged his players to stay focused.“We are pretty much a quarter of the way through the season and we are sitting at the top of the pile, which is great,” the Steelmen boss said.“That’s obviously where you want to be, it’s what you set your stall out for at the start of the season so it’s definitely a case of so far, so good for us.“We are now heading into the middle part of the season and the run up to Christmas and there are some important games coming up over the next four or five weeks.“We have to stay focused and not get carried away with anything.“As far as a start of the season goes, it’s gone really well and it’s been really positive.“But it is only a start and it’s about where we go from here.”The back-to-back home wins ended a run of four games without a victory in all competitions for Corby.And Kinniburgh believes the fact his young squad are willing to take in the information given to them has been key.“We had to come through a tricky period when we had the FA Cup game at Stockport County and that was followed immediately by a league game at Bedford Town so we had some tough games coming on the back of each other,” he added.“So we have had to work at it and to have come out of all that still unbeaten in the league and then scoring 11 goals in our last two home games is magnificent.“The pleasing thing is this is a young team that is always learning and that’s ideal because we can work on things and give the players information and they are taking it all in and using it.“If you have a squad of players that want to take on information and get better then it is perfect for any coach or manager."
