Kettering Town turn to Leak to shore up backline for the new season

Kettering Town have strengthened their backline ahead of the new Pitching-In Southern League Premier Central season with the signing of former Walsall central Tom Leak from National League North side Chester.

The 25-year-old made 32 appearances for the Seals last season as they finished seventh to seal a place in the play-offs, only to lose 2-1 at Macclesfield in the eliminator.

Leak started his career at EFL outfit Walsall, making 12 first team appearances across two seasons for the Saddlers before moving into non-League with Kidderminster Harriers.

In the summer of 2023 he moved to Boston United and helped them win promotion to National League, before making the move to Chester in February 2025.

Poppies boss Liam McDonald is delighted to have landed the player, telling Kettering Town's social media channels: "Tom’s a fantastic addition.

"He’s played at a higher level, has great experience for his age and we’re confident he’ll be a key player for us this season.

"We wanted to improve on last season's back line, and we’ve done that with this signing.”

Leak's contract at Chester ran out at the end of the 2025/26 season, and he was released by the club ahead of new manager Phil Parkinson taking the reins last month.
