'It feels like everything is against us', admits frustrated Setchell

Frustrated Corby Town boss Gary Setchell felt his side deserved more from their narrow 1-0 defeat to Lichfield on Saturday.

Neither goalkeeper was tested during an uneventful first half in Staffordshire before Corby twice went close after the restart through Rhys Kelly and Jordon Crawford, but Lichfield scored the game’s only goal thanks to Jude Taylor’s 65th-minute strike.

The defeat sees Corby drop to sixth in the Northern Premier League Midlands Division ahead of Wednesday’s home game against Coleshill Town.

"It’s not a good day at the office and to be honest it’s not been a good month at the office since the Kidderminster game,” admitted Setchell. “It just feels like everything is against us at the moment.

"I thought we gave a decent account of ourselves against a really, really hard-working and well-organised team and a draw would probably have been a fair result but we missed a glorious chance to go 1-0 up and it’s one we score nine out of 10 times.

"Thirty seconds later, they score what looked to me an offside goal. It’s a great finish by the lad and we’ve gone from missing a great chance to be 1-0 up to going 1-0 down and Litchfield are a team that make it very difficult for you.

"We hit the post at the start of the second half and we had other moments but I said to the lads – these are the fine margins. When you’re winning, you don’t notice those fine margins because you’re on the right side of them.

"But when you’re on the wrong end, you really notice the fine margins. We gave everything we had today and we tried to match them all over the pitch but we weren’t good enough.

"They had a great spell early on, we then came back and had a couple of great chances but they scored and it’s then very difficult for us. We huffed and puffed but it just feels like everything is against us.

"It’s down to us to pick ourselves up because we’re still a good side and we have to find a way and find a system that works for this group of players and it’s my job now to get the feel-good factor back into the club.

"We’ll try and lift the players because they’re feeling down but we have a responsibility to finish in the top five, there’s no excuse, and the hard work for the second half of the season starts now.”
