Interest is high as Corby seek a new manager

The hunt for the next Corby Town manager is well under way after a dramatic week at Steel Park.

The Steelmen were looking set for the next Southern League Division One Central campaign under the leadership of Tommy Wright who returned to the club earlier this summer.

However, in a dramatic turn of events, the club confirmed on Saturday that Wright has resigned due to “work and family commitments”.

The Corby squad still came in for pre-season training on the same day, which was led by academy director Dom Genovese and his coaches.

The Steelmen’s search for Wright’s replacement began immediately and the interviewing process is set to start this week with chairman Stevie Noble confirming that interest in the vacant position has been high.

“There is a lot of interest so we are sifting through everything and then we will start interviewing candidates,” the Steelmen chairman said.

“It’s not ideal when somebody leaves but there are worse things happening in this current climate.

“And there will always be plenty of takers. I have been inundated with applicants and now it’s our job to make sure we pick the right one.

“Nothing in football surprises me. Things make you gasp a wee bit but you just have to get on with it and deal with it, it’s as simple as that.

“There’s a job to be done and we have to do it.

“The players were in on Saturday and they were still in groups of five at the time so we had junior academy coaches in to make sure we had enough coaches to cover the numbers training.”
