Great start for Wollaston as local footballers return to action

Hundreds of footballers returned to action last weekend as the ChromaSport Northants Combination’s Duston Garage supplementary competitions got under way.

Teams have been split into eight groups to give them competitive matches after the regular season was curtailed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

And it was a great start for Wollaston Victoria in Group A as they claimed a 4-3 victory at Harpole thanks to goals from Zak Ward (2), Perry Smith and Jack Plummer.

Elsewhere, Kettering Nomads suffered a 2-1 home defeat to Roade.

In Group B, the local derby between Stewarts & Lloyds and Corby Pegasus went the way of the latter as they claimed a 2-1 success.

Ethan Mills was on target for S&L but Ryan Britton and Devids Dobrecovs earned Pegasus the victory.

There was a fine 4-0 win for Corby Strip Mills in Group C but Corby Locos went down by the same scoreline at Roade Reserves.

Wollaston Victoria Reserves completed a good day for the club as they saw off Harpole Reserves 4-0 in Group D thanks to goals from James Harvey, Ashley Taylor, Reece Watson and Redford Williams.

In the same group, Wesley Kirkton scored twice in Finedon Volta’s 4-3 success at Corby Siam while a Ben Smith goal was only a consolation as Higham Town lost 2-1 at home to Moulton Reserves.

In Group E, Dany Reid and Dean Murray were among the goals as Stewarts & Lloyds Reserves won 3-2 at Wilby Rising, who had Daniel Payne and James Wager on target.

Elsewhere, Stanwick Rovers were 4-2 winners at Brixworth while Corby Ravens claimed a 3-0 success at Northampton FC Eagles.

Group H: Great Doddington 3 West Haddon Albion Res 3, Thorplands Club 81 0 Corby Trades 5, Spratton Res 3 Higham Town Res 1.
