The frontman, who joined the club a year ago, released a statement this evening in which he revealed “personal issues off the pitch” were the reason for him leaving the Dog & Duck.

Berwick joined Diamonds a year ago and went on to play a key role in the ChromaSport & Trophies United Counties League Premier Division title success.

Berwick was also the joint top scorer so far this season with 11 goals in all competitions.

However, he has now left the club, who are top of the Evo-Stik Southern League Division One Central, on the eve of a tough trip to Aylesbury tomorrow (Saturday).

In a statement posted on Twitter, Berwick said: “Unfortunately the time has come for me to step away from the club.

“I want to nip any speculation about my non-inclusion tomorrow in the bud and say I have absolutely no bad feeling to Peaksy (manager Andy Peaks), Lamby (assistant-manager Paul Lamb) and any of the lads.

“Some personal issues off the pitch have meant I am not able to commit fully to the team, which is as frustrating to me as anyone else.

“I genuinely wish the lads every success for the rest of the season and thanks to the fans for the great times over the past year.”

Diamonds, meanwhile, have confirmed the dates of two re-arranged fixtures.

They will host Arlesey Town on Tuesday, February 9 while, a week later on February 16, they will take on fellow high-fliers St Ives Town at the Dog & Duck. Both matches will kick-off at 7.45pm.
