Drury says Shepshed draw is another 'positve step in the right direction' for the Steelmen

Boss Graham Drury says Saturday's 0-0 draw with high-flying Shepshed Dynamo was another 'positive step in the right direction' for struggling Corby Town.

The Steelmen remain third from bottom and five points from safety in the Pitching-In Northern Premier League Midlands Division, but Drury was looking on the bright side.

Corby secured only a second win of the season last Tuesday when they beat Mickleover 2-0, and the returned to Steel Park on Saturday hoping to claim another three points.

As it was, they had to settle for a point from a team that started the day sitting third in the table, and Drury was satisfied with that outcome.

"You always want more, but let's respect the team we have played," the Steelmen boss told @chuckmiddleton.

"They are third in the table for a reason, they run hard and compete all over the pitch very well.

"A bit like Wellingborough, they are a well-oiled machine and all credit to them.

"We have now got four points from our past two games, we've got two clean sheets.

"I think we have a real building block to build on, the lads have really bought into the work ethic we are putting into them, and they are looking fitter, there is no doubt about that.

"We are also starting to believe in ourselves and at the end of the game we had them on the back foot a little bit.

"Shepshed shaded the first 25 or 30 minutes, but then we settled in and it got more even.

"In the second half we had a real go at it, and so did they, and I think the result is fair in the end.

"I think that's a really good point and backs up a great performance on Tuesday.

"It's another positive step in the right direction for me, another clean sheet, and we are a work in progress."

Corby Town are quickly back in action as they travel to fourth-placed Nuneaton Town on Tuesday night (ko 7.45pm).

A win would see Corby rise to fourth from bottom, and to within two points of fifth-from-bottom Barwell.

And the Steelmen could well be strangthened, with Drury saying: "We'll have a head count and see who's fit and who's not.

"Luckily I don't think we have picked up any injuries, and hopefully we will have a new signing in the door as well."
