Doughboys battle back for a crucial success

Wellingborough Town produced an excellent second-half fightback as they moved out of the bottom two in the ChromaSport & Trophies United Counties League Premier Division after a fine 2-1 success at Northampton Spencer.

The hosts had only been beaten once in their previous eight matches and looked on course for another win when Ryan Ansell struck before half-time.

However, the Doughboys battled back and Dan Stewart levelled with 15 minutes to go before Adam Randall hit the winner to move his side three points clear of the drop zone.

The visitors took the lead in the second half through Danny Beaumont but, with the game into six minutes of stoppage-time, Cummins scored to earn Ar Tarn a point.

Rothwell Corinthians slipped to a 1-0 defeat at Sleaford Town.

George Asplin grabbed the only goal of the game on 67 minutes to earn the hosts a fourth win in a row.

Stewarts & Lloyds were brought back down to earth with a bump in Division One as they suffered a 2-1 defeat at Potton United.

Just a few days after beating leaders Peterborough Sports, the Foundrymen were on the wrong end of the scoreline despite Michael Byrne giving them the lead.

Gary Ansell-Carter equalised before half-time and the same player sealed the points late on.

S&L are now five points behind second-placed ON Chenecks after they were held to a 2-2 draw by Raunds Town.

However, a Chris Jones own-goal with 14 minutes to go salvaged a point for the hosts.

Rushden & Higham United were beaten 3-0 at Peterborough Sports, who got things back on track after two successive losses.
